This post is an FYI for those of you who haven't heard the update on Gavin's vision but were interested in knowing how it was going.
Gavin went to Casey Eye Institute last week and the vision in his left (lazy) eye had improved by one line. He now sees 20/80 out of that eye with his glasses on. I think because of his improvements, they are really trying to push hard to get his vision as good as they can before he starts school.
Because of that, when the doctor heard that we had been struggling with patching (this was our second check-up with less-than-stellar reports of our patching efforts), he suggested that we try atropine drops. Long explanation short, the drops dilate his good eye, resulting in blurred vision that forces him to use his lazy eye. It's basically full time patching without the patch.
We go back to CEI in two months. Hopefully there will be more improvement! Gavin is a trooper...sometimes he'll take his glasses off and say "this eye sees WEIRD" but other than that, there have been no complaints! We are so grateful that he has been able to make this much progress and have faith that the doctors will help his eyes be as ready for school as HE is! :)
