Things You Can Do in a Spica Cast

If you were wondering how time was spent in the spica cast, here is a list of what Gavin was able to do these past 8 weeks...

1. Watch TV (obviously, this was inevitable)
2. Play Wii
3. Get hair washed in the kitchen sink

4. Arts and crafts projects

5. Read books

6. Go to the library
7. Go grocery shopping
8. Get sponge baths
9. Play board games and card games
10. Ride in the car
11. Go for "walks" at the river

12. Help dry the dishes

13. Make sister laugh
14. Go to church and nursery
15. Help put lotion on baby sister after her bath

16. Go to Disneyland and even ride on the rides (he rode Dumbo a lot because he didn't have to wait in line for that one).

17. Get special attention from Disneyland characters

18. Spend time outside
19. Sing
20. Color
21. Camp in the backyard
22. Play on the computer

23. DANCE!!

24. Go to a family reunion
25. Play with toys (we were blessed with generous family and ward members who brought over toys to help us increase his selection!)
26. Crawl up the stairs
27. Pull up to a standing position
28. Cruise along the furniture
29. Sit on patio swing outside

30. Eat at restaurants (see him at the end of the table?)

31. Go to the mall
32. Go to a parade
33. Eat, eat and eat!!
34. Go to a street-fest
35. Eat at the dinner table on a dining chair(with the help of a bean bag chair)

36. Go for a bike ride (in the trailer...we wish we had discovered this one earlier)

37. Put together puzzles
38. Ride in a wagon (which made a lot of our activities possible)
39. Play dodge ball (this one was hilarious!!)

40. Go to the beach

41. Go to church activity at the park
42. Have a picnic with family at the river
43. Say prayer (I love how he flips over so that he can "kneel" on the bed)
44. Play the piano (he'll even pull himself up onto the bench if mom isn't looking!)
45. Survive the stomach flu without destroying cast (props to Jared who stayed up all night with "the bowl")

46. Cuddle!!

47. Go to Farmer's Market
48. Wear clothes (thanks to Grandma's brainstorming and LeeAnn's sewing skills)
49. Act like a normal two year old. Which, really, is a miracle! Gavin has been such a patient trooper through all of this.
50. And (lately) crawl, roll, cruise, climb to whatever he wants - usually getting into something off limits. We've been so happy to see this, though. Hopefully this means he won't be too hesitant in getting started with walking again.

CITIES WHERE GAVIN AND THE CAST HAVE BEEN:
The Dalles, OR
Hood River, OR
Hermiston, OR
Kennewick, WA
Bingen, WA
Yakima, WA
Anaheim, CA (and lots of pit stops in between since we drove)
Los Angeles, CA
Santa Monica, CA
Dufur, OR
Dallesport, WA

LESS THAN 24 HOURS LEFT!!!!!
We have his first three activities planned: bath, then haircut, then bath!!

  1. Eden loved this post, she was like i wanna ride dumbo, i want to go to that house(the restaurant picture), i color too, and on and on. You have done such an awesome job, I don't think I could entertain as well as you have. Happy that he'll finally be out and about again.
